Scar correction

Comment

Scars are formed as a result of any total damage of the skin. A skin scar may be atrophic, normotrophic, hypertrophic and keloid. Their development depends mainly on the peculiarities of the organism. All scars, except for normotrophic, need treatment.

Result

It is impossible to delete scars, but it’s feasible to make them less notable. Our clinic has introduced a complex approach to that problem. It should be noted that a scar formation takes a year, so it is recommended to avoid operational invasion during this period, except for special cases. In this period one may use various ointments, silicon bandages, hormonal injections and physiotherapeutic procedures. The operation should be performed only if all these procedures failed.

Operation

There are several methods of the operative treatment of scars, which are selected individually for each patient.

Small scars can be cut out and sutured.

In case of large scars there can be used skin transplantation or rotational cover of the scar with turned part of the skin.

With large scars it is also possible to use a special device – expander for stretching skin close by the scars, then imply the expanded skin for scar cover. It should be noted that this method doesn’t need any additional cuts.

Duration

The operation lasts from 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the chosen method and size of the scar.

Side effects

It should be reminded that the scar can’t be entirely deleted. In some cases the scar may remain visible due to the tendency of the organism.

Patient’s status

The patient leaves the clinic on the same or the next day. The rehabilitation period depends on size and location of the scar.

Anesthesia

The operation may be conducted under local, as well as regional and general anesthesia.
